EJCT Baden 2025: The line-up of girls’ teams promises world-class curling

From 4 to 7 September 2025, the Baregg Curling Hall in Baden will be the meeting place for Europe’s junior elite: The European Junior Curling Tour (EJCT) is stopping off in the spa town, and the line-up of girls’ teams reads like a who’s who of international junior curling. The Baden curlers are really looking forward to it, as they will get to compete against the best – and in front of a home crowd.

Swiss champions and local heroes: Team St. Gallen-Baden led by Elodie Jerger

The big highlight from Baden’s perspective: the reigning Swiss champions and winners of last year’s EJCT Thun, Team St. Gallen-Baden with skip Elodie Jerger, will be competing in Baden. Elodie Jerger, who plays for the Curling Club Baden Regio, has fought her way to the top of the national rankings with her team in recent years and has also caused a sensation internationally.

In March 2025, the St. Gallen-Flims-Baden team won the Swiss championship title in Thun – with Elodie Jerger as skip. They had already won the 37th International EJCT Thun tournament in autumn 2024, defeating the reigning Swiss champions twice in the process. For the Baden native, the home tournament in Baden is a very special highlight of the season:

‘We are really looking forward to playing in front of our home crowd and want to show what we can do,’ says Elodie Jerger.

The team benefits from intensive preparation: the players will be back on the ice in July, following a period of summer training and athletics. The combination of technique, tactics and fitness is the recipe for success for the St. Gallen and Baden players – and they intend to prove it at their home tournament.

Strong competition from the British Isles: three teams from Scotland

The Scottish junior women are traditionally strong – and three teams are travelling to the EJCT Baden. Among them is Team Seftor, which won last year’s EJCT St. Gallen. As well Team Soutar who is current Scottish Junior Champion after a win in November 2024 agains them Laurie, who will attend our Tournament as well.

The Scottish women are known for their sophisticated technique and team spirit and are sure to provide exciting games in Baden.

International flair: Romania and other European teams

The field of participants is rounded off by a team from Romania, which is competing in Baden for the first time. The Romanian women have made great progress in recent years and are bringing a breath of fresh air to the tournament. This makes the EJCT Baden once again a real international showcase for young curling talent.

From the country of the junior women’s vice world champions, Germany will also be represented by a team.

Top Swiss teams: Swiss vice-champions and Basel hopefuls

In addition to Team Jerger, other top Swiss teams will also be competing:

  • CC Limmattal-Wetzikon with Zoe Schwaller: The Swiss vice-champions are looking to build on their strong performances last season in Baden.
  • Team Blackham and Team Heinimann from Basel: Team Blackham is a very experienced junior women’s team. Team Heinimann is younger, but made a name for itself with second places in the Swiss Cup and the EJCT St. Gallen. The Basel women are known for their fighting spirit and will give their all in Baden.
  • Team Devaux (Baden): For the young Baden team led by skip Murielle Devaux, the EJCT Baden is their first major international tournament. The players are eagerly awaiting their home appearance and are preparing for the challenge with great dedication. For the youngest team in the field, the main focus is on gaining experience at this international level.

Preparation and anticipation: Focus on the Baden girls’ teams

The home tournament is a special incentive for the Baden curlers. Intensive preparations are already underway: in addition to regular ice training, the programme includes summer training, strength and endurance sessions, and tactical training, both as a team and at the regional training centre in Baden. The young athletes know that every detail counts in international competition – and they are ready to give their all.

Elodie Jerger describes her team’s motivation as follows:

‘We want to show what we can do in front of our home crowd. The competition is strong, but we have proven in recent years that we can keep up. The EJCT Baden is the highlight at the start of the season and on our way to the World Championships in Taarnby, Denmark, at the end of February.’

Team Devaux will also have the opportunity to get a taste of international tournament action for the first time. The young players are looking forward to meeting teams from all over Europe and gaining valuable experience.

Curling in Baden: youth development with prospects

The successes of recent years show that youth development in Baden is bearing fruit. The Curling Club Baden Regio and the local coaches invest a lot in training young talent. The opportunity to train on ice almost all year round is a huge advantage for the Baden teams.

The victories at the EJCT Thun and the Swiss championship title in 2025 are the result of hard work, team spirit and passion for the sport. The Baden women are role models for the next generation and show that international success is also possible in junior women’s curling.
